The Role
CCR seeks a talented Grid Integration Engineer to lead technical work to analyze transmission systems throughout the United States to identify favorable locations to interconnect new generating facilities, prepare generator data models, and provide technical expertise to support project development, project commissioning, and project operations. The role is an individual contributor reporting to the Director of Grid Integration Engineering, with responsibilities to include supporting the development of technical materials in support interconnection applications, lending expertise during the interconnection study process, and providing input to CCR’s Solutions (operations team) regarding evolving operational requirements across the United States.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Perform steady state power flow analysis for the Eastern Interconnect, WECC, and ERCOT systems.
- Modify power flow base cases to add queued generation and create sensitivity analysis cases.
- Provide cost estimates for potential interconnection facilities and network upgrades required to interconnect a new project.
- Advise project developers on options for sizing of new projects and the costs/risks associated.
- Support development of power flow tools for TARA and PSS/E.
- Prepare and/or manage consultant development of project specific steady state, dynamic, short circuit, and PSCAD models for solar and battery facilities.
- Participate in stakeholder processes and working groups to advance interconnection policy and to provide insight on the impacts of interconnection policy changes to the Cypress Creek development portfolio.
- Monitor industry standards and generator interconnection and performance requirements.
Skills and Qualifications:
- BS degree in engineering from an accredited university required, EE or other related engineering discipline.
- 3-5 years of transmission planning experience as a utility planner or consultant.
- Prior experience working with multiple ISOs and utilities and detailed knowledge of interconnection study practices.
- Experience working with power flow software (PSS/E, PowerWorld, TARA, etc.)
- Python or other programming experience.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage and prioritize competing priorities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities
Locations: The preferred location for this role is one of our offices. We have offices in Asheville, NC; Durham, NC; Washington, DC; NYC; Los Angeles, CA; and San Francisco, CA. Additionally, we are on a hybrid schedule 3/week.
Compensation: The salary range for the position is $110,000-$140,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
