Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Head Gymnastics Coach, is responsible for instructing safe, effective and fun gymnastics practices, as well as, enhancing the quality and growth of the program and retention of the participants of the Gymnastics Team program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead and coordinate in the growth and development of the Competitive Team Program.
- Design and prepare workouts that meet all the necessary components and safe guidelines in accordance with current accepted practices of exercise physiology and the USAG.
- Be safety-conscious, maintain order and enforce rules during practices and meets to ensure gymnastics safety and respect.
- Coordinate program evaluation process.
- Lead practices, starting and ending promptly on time.
- Create a positive learning environment through personal enthusiasm and building team spirit.
- Keep accurate records of attendance and skills achieved by each gymnast.
- Find substitute teacher(s) when needed and reporting substitution(s) to the appropriate Coordinator/Director.
- Build relationships with participants, prospective participants, and their families.
- Attend all meets, invitationals, and other events.
- Attend all league meetings
- Traveling to events required, some overnight stays as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
· Must be at least 18 years of age
· Minimum 3 years’ experience with Gymnastics teams, two being in a coaching capacity.
· Basic safety trainings to be obtained upon hire and maintained as required.
· CPR, First Aid, and AED certified
· Child Abuse Prevention trainings.
· Must complete/obtain USA Gymnastics training courses: U101 and U110
· Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
· Ability to effectively work/interact with diverse populations.
· Ability to work in and resolve conflict situations/problem resolution.
· Ability to work irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends.
· Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor), while maintaining alertness for extended periods of time.
· Ability to stand, kneel, stoop, crouch and to provide sustained attention to students during class time.
· Ability to “spot” gymnastics skills including the strength to lift and carry 75 lbs.
· Ability to push or pull equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
· Ability to speak concisely and effectively
· Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
