General Statement of Duties
Forsyth County Animal Services is looking for a dynamic individual to join their team as the Health and Wellness Team Lead. This individual will be responsible for bridging the gap between management and technicians. The Health and Wellness Team Lead will be responsible for training, coaching, and assisting the Health and Wellness Technicians. This individual will handle scheduling assignments, assessing the medical needs of the animals in the shelter's care, providing customer service to the public and assisting with daily shelter operations,.

- Ability to work within the rules of the NC Animal Welfare Act and state and local laws related to the responsible care of animals.
- Knowledge of the proper care and treatment of animals, including safe handling procedures.
- Ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships with other employees.

providing quality customer service. - Ability to communicate effectively both in person and by telephone.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to properly clean kennels and work areas.
- Ability to reasonably read an animal's temperament.
- Ability to handle animals professionally and responsibly without bias and exercising emotional intelligence.
Minimum Education and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of professional veterinary assistant/technician experience; or
- Associate degree in animal science, veterinary technology or related field; or
- Bachelor’s degree in animal science or related field.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Previous animal shelter experience preferred
- Certified euthanasia technician or be eligible to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Certified Rabies Vaccinator or eligible to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Must complete rabies pre-exposure vaccination series (provided by the county).
Physical Demands
Ability to lift 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 25-50 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads the daily functions of medical program.
- Ensures all treatments provided are within the PVC and NC Dept of Agriculture standards.
- Leads Health and Wellness techs by assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards, referring to manager on employee problems, and training new employees.
- Assists with maintaining the overall health of shelter population.
- Assists with the evaluation of each animal’s adoptability based on their medical needs.
- Ensure all medical exams, treatments, and procedures are documented in shelter software in accordance with state laws.
- Ensures controlled substances are logged and utilized within the parameters of DEA
- Ensures animals are cared for in accordance with generally accepted sheltering guidelines and standards.
- Assists in the evaluation of each animal at the time they are received.
- Assists with re-evaluation of each animal daily for signs of sickness or disease.
- Ensures animal care and cleaning services are provided in alignment with the department’s overall mission to develop, implement, and meet short and long-term goals.
- Ensures health and behavior concerns are documented in accordance with state laws in shelter software.
