Position Summary:
We are seeking a 9th Grade English Language Arts Teacher who is passionate about literature, writing, and helping high school students develop strong analytical and communication skills. You’ll help lay the foundation for students’ high school success and post-secondary readiness, with a focus on critical thinking, academic writing, and real-world connections.
You will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction aligned with grade-level standards, using assessment data to drive decisions, and fostering a learning environment that is safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous.
Responsibilities:
- Teach 9th Grade ELA aligned to Michigan high school standards and school curriculum
- Create lesson plans using backward design and integrate formative assessment data
- Develop students’ skills in close reading, argumentative writing, vocabulary, and grammar
- Scaffold content to meet the needs of all learners, including those with IEPs or EL needs
- Infuse culturally relevant texts and themes into the curriculum
- Provide feedback that promotes growth and revision
- Maintain consistent parent communication and student feedback
- Implement classroom norms that foster academic excellence and mutual respect
- Engage in professional learning and collaborative planning with the ELA department
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English Education or a closely related field
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (or transferrable certification)
- English (BA or BX) endorsement required; ZA or ZS endorsement a plus
- At least two years of high school teaching experience preferred
- Familiarity with NWEA, SAT/PSAT benchmarks, and writing rubrics
- Ability to build strong relationships with high school students
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,000.00 - $60,500.00 per year
