We are seeking experienced Horizontal Directional Drill Operators to join our growing team. As an HDD Operator, you will play a vital role in the installation of underground utility lines using horizontal directional drilling techniques. This role requires attention to safety, understanding of underground utility systems, and experience with directional drilling equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate horizontal directional drill rigs and associated equipment safely and efficiently
- Read and interpret utility maps and job plans
- Work closely with locators to ensure drill path is clear of utilities
- Monitor bore path and adjust drilling as needed
- Troubleshoot and resolve drilling issues in the field
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Maintain detailed documentation of drilling activities
- Ensure all work complies with safety and quality standards
- Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and project managers
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating horizontal directional drills (e.g., Ditch Witch, Vermeer)
- Familiarity with mud mixing systems, tracking systems, and reamers
- Strong knowledge of underground utility construction and safety standards
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed
- Physically able to lift heavy equipment and work in varying outdoor conditions
Preferred Skills:
- CDL Class A or B
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- Experience with fiber optic or telecom projects
