Position Overview

This position provides a safe, clean, and sanitized environment for visitors and staff in County buildings.

Grade 15

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sanitizes and cleans assigned areas.
  • Inspects buildings for debris and special cleaning.
  • Conducts general building maintenance.
  • Performs setup for special events.
  • Maintains and updates Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Inspects and tests fire alarms and fire extinguishers.
  • Monitors recycling collection bins.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications: Possession of a valid, State of North Carolina driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of County and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
  • Skill in operating, maneuvering and/or controlling the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures regarding equipment, supplies, and chemicals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, members of the general public and other groups involved in the activities of the County as they relate to the department.
