Title: One SCA Individual Placement - Interpretation

Program Dates: 9/29/2025 -5/9/2026 = 32 weeks

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and improve national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, historical landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.
Position Description:
Project Location: Padre Island National Seashore, Corpus Christi, TX
Project Summary
The purpose of this project is to employ a young adult in resource stewardship and public engagement. One of the park's goals, in alignment with the park's interpretive themes, is to interpret the many biologically different habitats that provide rare opportunities to understand complex and critical processes and interactions that sustain the living world. Interpretation of life-cycles of key species, including physical impacts to habitats from marine debris, harmful algal blooms, and other threats, would help the park make substantial progress toward meeting this goal. The participant will be engaged in creating materials and programs that describe the importance of the park as habitat for animals in various life stages.
Member Key Duties and Responsibilities
. Build customer service and interpretive skills
. Develop formal and informal interpretive programs around the life-cycles of key species
. Develop social media posts centered around the life-cycles of key species
Member Marginal Duties
. Work on the visitor center front desk and assist with Western National Parks bookstore related tasks when needed.
. Assist permanent, term, other interns and seasonal staff with interpretive programming that may be held on or off site.
. Participate in cross-divisional training when the opportunity presents itself.
Member Required Qualifications
. Must have own transportation to and from the park.
. High school diploma/GED with some college experience
. Organized
. Flexible
. Detail oriented
. Ability to work on multiple projects at one time
. Ability to work independent
. Mindful of others' idiosyncrasies
. Ability to lift 40 pounds
. Ability to walk on uneven terrain
. Ability and willingness to work in a hot, humid environment
Member Preferred Qualifications
. Bachelor's degree
. Public speaking experience
. Effective communication skills
. Experience engaging members of the public

Member Benefits
- Living allowance: $600/week living allowance
- Commuter Allowance: $40 per week
- Housing Allowance: $725 per week
- All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
Housing
Candidate is local; housing allowance provided.
AmeriCorps Enrollment Notice
This position is eligible for optional enrollment in AmeriCorps. However, the SCA has not yet received confirmation of a grant award for the SCA AmeriCorps program you are scheduled to serve under. Because of this, the SCA cannot guarantee AmeriCorps enrollment for this service term.
The SCA will continue with your onboarding to ensure you are prepared to serve with AmeriCorps should funding be awarded. If AmeriCorps funding is not awarded by the time your position starts, you will serve in a non-AmeriCorps position. In that case, you will not be eligible for the AmeriCorps Education Award.
It is important to note that your living allowance and other benefits will remain unchanged regardless of AmeriCorps status.
Please know, the SCA will keep you informed as we learn more about the status of AmeriCorps funding and will notify you of AmeriCorps award eligibility before your position start date.
