Instructional Assistants Special Education assist a teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a special education learning environment. Assignments are throughout the district at middle and high schools in Special Education classrooms.

Requirements / Qualifications

Six months of job-related experience working with children, either paid or volunteer.


CPR and First Aid Certification from an accredited organization such as the Red Cross or American Heart Association. Online First Aid certificates are acceptable, however, CPR certificate must include "hands on" classroom training.

Location

Various school sites throughout San Diego, from Carmel Valley to Carlsbad

The competitive basis for this recruitment is Open/Promotional - Dual Certification. Candidates who pass all exams are placed on an eligibility list in order of overall exam score. Candidate names will be merged onto an existing list based on overall exam score each time the exam is administered. The eligibility list is used to fill current and future vacancies for six months.
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications participate in the following examinations: Multiple Choice test (math and English), weight: 75% and essay test, weight: 25%.

If a candidate has taken the multiple choice and/or performance test for this San Dieguito Union High School District job title or similar job title within the past two years, candidate may be able to transfer the scores to this recruitment. The exam must be sufficiently similar, as determined by the Director, Classified Personnel. Prior to the application deadline, a request to transfer score(s) should be e-mailed to: [email protected]. Transferring of exam scores does not apply to a Qualifications Appraisal Interview.
Veterans may be eligible for preference points on entrance examinations ("entrance" is defined as candidates who are not current employees of the District). A copy of your DD214 must be submtted at time of application.
Employment with San Dieguito Union High School District is contingent upon successful completion of post-offer background check, fingerprinting, physical exam including tuberculosis, drug and alcohol screening, and an Oath of Allegiance.
The probationary period for a new or promotional employee is six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer. Management employees serve a probationary period of one year.
