  • Join a dynamic multi-disciplinary Investigations team!
  • Key relationship management role across the Authority and wider stakeholder group
  • Asteron Centre, Wellington

By joining us, you will be part of a team where meaningful work, collaboration and innovation come together to help keep New Zealand’s skies safe and secure.

At the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand, we are constantly evolving to meet the demands of a changing environment and the aviation industry.

Recent legislative changes, along with an organisational realignment, have opened exciting new opportunities across the organisation. These changes are part of a broader effort to better position our teams for the future by enabling us to be more collaborative, efficient and effective in everything we do.

As we step confidently into our role as a modern regulator, we are embracing intelligence-led, risk-based approaches that help us make a real difference for our people and the communities we serve – with a strong value-for-money ethos. We’re also committed to enabling aviation participants to support economic growth in New Zealand's aviation sector.

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced investigator to join our multi-disciplinary team, responsible for investigating aviation safety and security incidents and accidents. Depending on the complexity of the situation, you could lead and manage the investigation or work as part of a wider cross-functional team.

In this unique role you will be required to travel, including travel to the site of an incident or accident. All Investigators must be medically and physically fit to undertake their role in remote and potentially hazardous locations.

The salary band for the Investigator starts at $136,939 to a maximum of $191,448. Starting salaries are to be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, as well as internal relativities.

What You’ll Bring

To be successful in this role, it is essential to have a solid background in investigations. You will possess excellent emotional intelligence and resilience to manage in challenging and emotionally difficult situations. It is critical in this role to have strong relationship building skills to develop internal and external relationships to educate and influence stakeholders at all levels.

We are interested in hearing from experienced practitioners who are excellent communicators, possess high attention to detail and have a good working knowledge of New Zealand Civil Aviation legislative and regulatory framework.

  • A successful track record as an experienced Investigator preferably in a complex environment.
  • Proven ability to write comprehensive investigation reports.
  • Experience in identifying and managing risks.
  • Effective relationships and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and confident decision-making capabilities.
  • A pragmatic, flexible and adaptable approach.
