K-12 LITERACY SPECIALIST & INSTRUCTIONAL COACH
The focus of the Literacy Specialist/Instructional Coach is to increase student achievement through the support and development of instructional staff. The Literacy Specialist/Instructional Coach will help shape the district’s literacy plan and support teachers in practices aligned with the science of reading to ensure SGCS students are given every opportunity to become proficient readers.The Literacy Specialist/Instructional Coach will support K-12 instructional staff in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The Literacy Specialist/Instructional Coach will report to the Curriculum Director.
Position: Full-Time; 185 Days
License: Indiana State Teachers License; Literacy Endorsement preferred
Qualifications:
- Indiana Teacher’s License; 5+ Years of teaching experience; K-12 experience preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of foundational reading skills, the science of reading, and best practices in literacy instruction and literacy intervention programming
- Demonstrated knowledge of formative and summative assessments, reading diagnostics, reading screeners, and state assessments
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective collaboration systems and protocols
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning practices
- Demonstrated ability to utilize technology to enhance student learning and adult learning
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner, both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated strength in organization, calendar management, and managing multiple projects
Essential Functions:
- Serve as district reading expert and lead reading interventionist
- Provide 1:1 instructional and curricular support to K-12 teachers in all content areas and grade levels
- Expand and refine staff understanding of effective instruction in all content areas and grade levels
- Design and facilitate professional learning in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and instruction
- Provide support to new-to-profession and new-to-district teachers
- Support and facilitate content area team collaborations and PLCs
- Support instructional staff in data analysis
- Support the development of curriculum maps and formative/summative assessments
- Provide targeted and meaningful feedback through coaching cycles
General Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted push-in support for early struggling readers
- Provide support to Title I program
- Provide support to K-12 instructional staff
- Facilitate K-12 grade-level collaborations
- Provide teachers with access to research and vetted resources
- Model effective and differentiated instruction when requested
- Encourage ongoing professional growth and development in all staff members
- Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers and staff
- Work with Innovation and Technology Coach to bring innovative professional development solutions to Smith-Green Community Schools
