JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Laboratory Technician (Construction Materials Testing)
Department: CMT
Reports to: Laboratory Manager
Pay Range: $20- $28 per hour based on applicable education, skills, and experience
POSITION SUMMARY
2MNEXT is looking to add a dedicated Lab Technician to our growing team! This is an incredible opportunity with extensive on-the-job training and company-sponsored professional development. The Lab Technician will support the Construction Materials and Geotechnical Laboratories by performing tests on soils, aggregates, concrete, or asphalt samples for engineering and construction applications. You will work directly with the Laboratory manager and have the opportunity to learn advanced materials testing methods. In your work as a lab technician, you will contribute to iconic construction projects ongoing in Georgia. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Testing asphalt, soil, aggregates, concrete, and other materials
- Stripping and labeling concrete specimens, setting samples for curing, and monitoring daily temperature logs
- Retrieving concrete cylinders and/or beams from the project site for lab testing
- Assisting with field testing
- Tracking soil and aggregate proctors, mix designs (concrete and asphalt), and testing specifications required for each project
- Maintaining a clean and organized laboratory in compliance with QA/QC initiatives and accreditation requirements
- Using reasoning to perform project analysis related to lab and field testing
- Performing other duties as directed by the Laboratory Manager and/or Assistant Laboratory Manager
Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, notwithstanding work in other functional areas to cover absences and relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Skill in reading (technical or scientific) documents, such as technical manuals and project plans
- Skill in writing concise, logical, grammatically correct technical reports
- Skill in arithmetic, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals without a calculator
- Clean driving record with no more than two driving violations in the last 36 months
- Willing to obtain ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician Certifications within 90 days of employment
- Willing to obtain other lab-related certifications as directed in the course of your employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
- Experience in a laboratory setting
- Experience in materials testing
- Materials testing certifications such as ACI
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position entails work in both indoor and outdoor environments with potential exposure to weather conditions.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the required functions.
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding
- Ability to physically maneuver construction sites and excavations
- Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communications in the English language, including the ability to communicate directly and over the telephone and be understood.
