LABORER (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) – BAY AREA DISTRICT / KENT CANYON MT. TAMALPAIS


The reporting location for this position is the Trail shop at Kent Canyon Mt Tamalpais State Park or other facilities in the District based on project need. The Laborer works under the supervision of the Bay Area District Trail Program, Park Maintenance Chief I. The Laborer will support technical supervision for project implementation work crews which can include California Conservations Corps (CCC), American Conservation Experience (ACE), Cal-Fire and other local and volunteer work crews. This position will frequently work from remote locations to efficiently complete task assignments. Work shifts can include 8 and 10 day work schedules. The position is required to work nights, weekends and odd hours and overtime in accomplishment of assigned tasks. This position may also spike camp at work sites within the district as needed to accomplish special funded projects. This position will provide leadership to the other staff within the department and conservation labor crews in trail maintenance, campground rehabilitation, and other facilities and resource activities as scheduled. It is anticipated that this position will work 1500 hours per year and employment is dependent on special project funding.

The work schedule will be 8 days on and 6 days off. The incumbents work schedule will be Wednesday to Wednesday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM and will have Thursday-Tuesday off.
This position is currently eligible for a Recruitment and Retention pay differential for the Greater Bay Area. This pay differential is five percent (5%) of the base pay for each qualifying pay period and is in addition to the posted monthly salary range.


This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position may work up to 1500 hours in any calendar year. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Working Conditions

Typical working conditions will include manual labor, extensive walking on trails and unpaved roads, hot summer temperatures, exposure to noxious plants and insects (e.g. poison oak. ticks, mosquitos) cold winter conditions including work in rain and snow conditions, and work in high altitude coastal environments. Position will require overnight travel based on project requirements.
