The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.
All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary
The Law Enforcement Training Instructor is responsible for developing, coordinating, and conducting training in a law enforcement/correctional environment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Researches materials for course content by reading state and federal laws, agency protocol, books, publications, policies, court decisions, and other sources to ensure appropriate training is provided for various mandated standards and regulations. Conducts training needs assessments by developing and disseminating surveys, compiling survey data, interviewing managers and employees, and reviewing resources. Develops and updates training courses from training directives, research, survey data, and other sources and writes course objectives, lesson plans, and course content. Conducts training courses through lectures and other training techniques and evaluates training through participant's evaluation of course content. Schedules training, reserves training rooms, and writes participants and other involved personnel, informing them of the course schedule, content, and other requirements. Revises programs by updating course objectives, lesson plans, and course content. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of training program development and presentation techniques. Knowledge of teaching principles and methods. Knowledge of law enforcement or correctional programs, policies, procedures, and regulations. Ability to research, develop, evaluate, and revise training programs. Ability to coordinate and conduct training programs. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public administration, psychology, education, or a related field; plus two years of experience in training development and presentation or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
