As we continue to scale across New Jersey and beyond, we are seeking a dedicated finance professional who is both strategic and hands-on to help build and lead our internal financial operations.
Position Summary: The Sr. Accountant will be responsible for the full cycle of accounting, day-to-day bookkeeping, financial reporting, and the development of internal systems and controls. This role is ideal for someone who is ready to grow with a mission-driven company, understands the complexities of real estate development, construction, and property management accounting, and can create scalable financial processes while rolling up their sleeves in the early stages.
Accounting & Bookkeeping:
-Perform and oversee full-cycle bookkeeping (AR/AP, general ledger, bank reconciliations, payroll entries)
-Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
-Maintain clean books for multiple entities and projects (LLCs, JVs, mixed-use assets)
Sr Accountant-Level Oversight:
-Establish and enforce accounting policies and internal controls
-Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
-Manage financial reporting for investors, lenders, and tax professionals
-Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable state/federal regulations
Construction & Property Management Accounting:
-Track construction draws, budgets vs. actuals, and soft/hard cost allocations
-Support and enhance requisition and pay application processes
-Collaborate with property management on rent rolls, expense reconciliations, and tenant financials
Process Building & Scaling:
-Implement financial software and accounting systems as the company scales
-Train and manage future junior staff or outsourced accounting support
-Serve as a financial thought partner to leadership on growth strategy
Essential Duties and Core Responsibilities:
Project Funding & Requisitioning:
- Lead the timely preparation and submission of monthly funding requisitions for hard and soft project costs using deal-specific templates required by lenders and equity investors.
- Oversee and implement invoice tracking, approval workflows, and payment scheduling for all project-related expenses, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and funding timelines.
- Coordinate draw processes with lenders, including documentation compliance, invoice compilation, and draw tracking to ensure timely release of funds and vendor payments.
Construction & Development Accounting:
- Enter, review, and process subcontractor requisitions and construction-related invoices within Procore, ensuring accuracy of retainage and adherence to contract terms.
- Maintain real-time tracking of project budget modifications, contingency usage, and committed cost forecasting based on updates from Development and Project Managers.
- Support Development Managers with the tracking and fulfillment of outstanding closing deliverables such as HUD checklists and lender-mandated documentation.
Financial Reporting & Forecasting:
- Prepare and present weekly and monthly cost reports for both internal leadership and external stakeholders including lenders, equity partners, and tenant representatives.
- Conduct detailed cost analyses and prepare reports with historical, current, and projected financial data to support strategic decision-making.
- Monitor and report on project contingency balances, including committed, projected, and exposed uses.
Budgeting & Performance Management:
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of each project’s hard and soft cost budget, including un-procured scopes, available contingencies, and “Holds.”
- Prepare and assist with the development of annual operating and capital budgets for development and stabilized properties.
- Assist in preparing performance presentations for internal and external stakeholders highlighting development, acquisition, and construction metrics.
Month-End & Year-End Close:
- Perform and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings; prepare detailed supporting schedules for all balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Assist with preparation of tax reporting packages, including quarterly estimates and year-end tax filings.
- Coordinate the annual preparation of 1099s and W-2s and liaise with tax preparers to ensure accurate and timely filing.
Cash Management & Operational Accounting:
- Manage daily accounting activities, including cash flow monitoring, accounts receivable/payable, and cash disbursement coordination.
- Monitor cash needs and initiate capital calls or equity/funding requests in accordance with project timelines.
- Review and reconcile monthly bank statements across operating, construction, and reserve accounts.
Property Management Accounting:
- Process and record security deposit transactions, coordinating closely with on-site management for timely release at move-out.
- Post monthly Gross Potential Rent (GPR) and rent roll adjustments in accordance with leasing activity and actual collections.
- Review monthly operating results, flagging variances and preparing explanations for management review.
Administrative & Other Duties:
- Create, distribute, and archive lien waivers for subcontractors in accordance with draw schedules.
- Process utility invoices related to construction and development activities, including electric, gas, phone, and cable.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by leadership.

Education and/or Experience:
- BS degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 5 years of Construction or Real Estate Development Accounting experience.
- Familiar with Property Managemant Accounting
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including writing formulas to complete mathematical functions.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word & Outlook.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
