- Prepare and sterilize all surgical instruments and equipment before, during, and after procedures to ensure a sterile environment.
- Escort patients to the operatory in a timely, professional manner.
- Help patients feel comfortable and informed before, during, and after their treatment, addressing any concerns they may have.
- Assist the oral surgeon during procedures by passing instruments, suctioning, and providing necessary materials as needed.
- Prepare patients for surgery, monitor vital signs, and assist in anesthesia administration to ensure patient safety.
- Verify patient medical history prior to treatment and ensure all necessary changes are made in the records.
- Confirm that the patient fully understands and is educated about the procedure being performed.
- Accurately document patient information, surgical details, and updates into the patient’s electronic health record (EHR).
- Provide post-operative care instructions to patients and ensure proper follow-up after surgery.
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team, providing leadership and guidance when necessary.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Dental Assistant program preferred.
- Maintain necessary certification(s) and renewals as required by state regulations.
- Ensure CPR certification is up to date.
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization techniques, and patient care protocols.
- Excellent manual dexterity and ability to handle surgical instruments with precision.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a surgical assistant, preferably in an oral surgery or dental setting.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience is a plus.
