Position Summary
The Department of Music invites part-time faculty candidates for Lecturer in Electric Guitar/Bass within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. This faculty position will teach applied electric guitar and bass lessons and may also be asked to teach other courses or coach ensembles (e.g., guitar ensemble). Responsibilities also include recruitment and may include attendance at departmental studio hour and instrumental seminar, as needed, on Thursdays from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.

In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of part-time faculty members at the university include teaching and professional activities as assigned.

Essential Functions
Basic instructional duties:
  • Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures.
  • Prepare and administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
  • Be available outside of class to help students learn as well as answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).
  • Adhere to UW Faculty Handbook policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to teach weekly applied lessons;
  • Ability to deliver instruction both in person and/or online as needed;
  • Ability to effectively learn, use, and incorporate instructional technology into teaching;
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach day, evening and weekend sections as needed;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
Master’s Degree in Music with an emphasis in Guitar Performance, or Electric Guitar/Bass.

Required Work Experience
  • At least two (2) years of experience teaching electric guitar or bass.
  • Evidence of significant performing experience on electric guitar or bass.

Preferred Qualifications
College/university-level teaching experience.

Work Hours
  • Based on course assignment.
  • Occasional attendance, as needed, at departmental recital hour and instrumental seminar on Thursdays, 1:30-2:45 p.m., as well as instrumental juries, hearings, and recitals, as needed.
