The Innovation Technology Counsel role reports directly to the Senior Director, Corporate Legal, Global Procurement & Transactions. The attorney will serve as an integral part of the Corporate Global Legal Team with primary responsibility to provide legal support to the innovation projects led by the PepsiCo Labs team. The role will involve working with cross-functional teams and attorneys globally across the legal department to ensure IP, AI, privacy, and other legal, risk and regulatory requirements are addressed and to ensure alignment with PepsiCo’s legal, regulatory and risk management strategies.

The Technology Innovation Counsel role is a newly created role that will provide primary legal support to the PepsiCo Labs technology and innovation team providing strategic legal advice related to the development, testing, integration, implementation, and maintenance of technology solutions including artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives, products, services, processes, and collaborations.

The Innovation Technology Counsel role will be asked to collaborate with key business partners to help advance strategic corporate initiatives, working closely with procurement, security, IT, risk management, eCommerce, innovation, global insights, marketing and brand teams, and colleagues across the legal department.
- Provide primary legal support to procurement and the PepsiCo Labs team to include the review, drafting, and negotiation of agreements for the PepsiCo Labs programs from initial proof of concept and evaluation agreements up to enterprise scale agreements.
- Define and align risk mitigation strategies for tech implementation, working iteratively with PepsiCo Labs, business stakeholders, and vendors to find a balanced approach across legal, operational, and commercial considerations.
- Work with the PepsiCo Labs team and associated innovation teams and relevant business partners across the organization as well as collaborating with local sector counsel, as needed, to support global negotiations specifically in technology innovation transactions led by the PepsiCo Labs team.
- Transactional work will include a variety of complex technology agreements, including software, AI solutions, cloud/SaaS solutions, hardware, data licensing, professional services, confidentiality, consultant, development, and other agreements led by the PepsiCo Labs team.
- Provide training and development to the PepsiCo Labs team related to best practices, emerging technology, the responsible use of AI technologies and innovation.
- Collaborate with the IT and other Legal Teams to share approaches & learnings on matters involving the responsible use of AI technologies as they relate to innovation projects lead by the PepsiCo Labs team.
- Support the PepsiCo Labs team in the development of process, policies and governance related to innovation projects led by the PepsiCo Labs team.
Compensation and Benefits:

The expected compensation range for this position is between $125,900 - $249,900.

Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 25% of annual salary paid out annually and an additional target payout of 10% of annual salary is paid out over 3 years following the end of the performance period.

Long term incentive equity may be awarded based on eligibility and performance.

- Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree from an accredited US law school, license to practice law in the United States.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
- 7+ years of relevant legal experience, including at least 3 - 4 years at a top-tier law firm and combination of law firm training and in house experience with a major international company.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills/able to persuade/influence others at all organization levels.
- Understanding of U.S. federal and state laws impacting technology, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and innovation initiatives, as well as information use laws.
- Strong understanding of technology and ability to communicate with both business units and technology professionals.
- Interest and focus on continuous learning about innovative and emerging technologies.
- Ability to translate legal requirements into actionable business/technical requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead key projects/matters across various functions and groups and as part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to foster lasting relationships across varying organizational levels and among internal clients with the maturity to interface with all levels of management.
- Self-starter who welcomes responsibility, along with the ability to thrive in an evolving organization and an ability to bring structure to unstructured situations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with legal colleagues and internal clients in a global environment.

- Prior technology innovation and transactional experience required.
