Provides public library service as a semi-professional at the circulation desk.
Specific duties include but are not limited to the following.
- Works circulation desk to include checking library materials in and out, maintaining patron accounts, registering and issuing patron cards, and inspecting returned materials for damage.
- Performs telephone receptionist duties, determining the nature of the call, and either personally assists the caller or directs the caller to the appropriate person.
- Assists with reference service.
- Directs patrons to the general location of library materials or equipment.
- Maintains and files records and reports for circulation statistics.
- Sorts returned library materials and either personally shelves materials or places them in a designated area to be shelved.
- Works with other staff members to plan and perform all duties related to programs and outreach in the library.
- Interacts extensively with patrons, other staff members, outside agencies, and other libraries.
- Participates in appropriate in-service training.
Educational Requirements:
A high School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Bilingual applicant preferred.
