The Library-Media Specialist will provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library-media program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district, and is integral component of the learning/instructional program.ResponsibilitiesPlans instruction that incorporates classroom and library-media curricula, the research process, and information/media literacy. Plans instruction that incorporates Digital Citizenship. Creates learning experiences by providing group and individual instruction, assessing student progress, and evaluating activities. Collaborates with classroom teachers as a partner in the instructional process.
Assists students and teachers in selection of reading and instructional materials. Advocates and promotes reading and life-long learning.Incorporates technology to enhance learning. Manages and supervises the library-media center.Creates and maintains an environment conducive to learning. Benchmarks the School Library Program (SLP) to school, state, and national standards.
Stays current in professional practices and educational research.Participates in the recruiting and training of library-media center volunteers. Develops and maintains resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and instructional strategies of the school community. Establishes communication and networks with the Andover Public Library staff. Establishes procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, resource sharing of material in all formats.
Promotes the ethical use of information: copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property.QualificationsUnder the direct supervision of the School Principal and the Executive Director of Technology Integration and Digital Literacy, the Library-Media Specialist should possess the following qualifications: DESE license as a Library/Media Specialist, All Levels Completed a teacher preparation program/educational degree and hold a master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or from a master's level program in library and information studies.
