Summary

Under general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Director, the Maintenance III (Landscape Technician) works to keep county landscapes attractive, clean, and well maintained. This individual will mow lawns, prune and fertilize shrubs, lawns, bushes, and trees. The Maintenance III (Landscape Technician) will assist in performing light maintenance and general cleaning in and around county facilities, as needed and/or directed by the Facilities Maintenance Director. This also individual is required to be punctual, dependable, trustworthy, and willing to work diligently, maintaining a congenial, helpful disposition, while working closely with all Department Heads and county employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:
  • Maintain county facility grounds and shrubs utilizing hand rakes, shovels, as well as using hand held pole saws, power chain saws, blowers, lawn mowers and riding mowers, etc.
  • Sweep sidewalk; maintain parking areas ground and shrubs.
  • Routinely inspect facilities and mechanisms; follow plan for preventive maintenance.
  • Inspect air-conditioning equipment on a regular basis and ensure that it is maintained and in proper working condition.
  • Perform minor maintenance on air-conditioning, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including painting.
  • Wax and polish floors as needed.
  • Move office equipment; store and replenish office supplies.
  • Perform other related tasks as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Director.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Mandatory Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or (GED) required. Individual must possess working knowledge of lawn equipment, to include pole saws, chain saws, blowers, and lawn mowers (push, riding, & zero turn). Must possess working knowledge of heating, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, and custodial procedures and practices. One (1) to two (2) years of landscaping and maintenance operations. This position requires traveling between county facilities and working with limited supervision.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Other specialized job requirements include a valid Texas driver’s license in order to operate personal vehicle or county vehicles. Must carry a cell phone during work hours.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
