Summary:
The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of company environmental, health, and safety programs, policies, and procedures, along with conducting regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight
- Valid qualifications in occupational health and safety with experience in the role of Safety Manager, Coordinator or similar.
- Comprehensive understanding of environmental, health and safety laws and guidelines.
- Good working knowledge of risk assessment processes and establishing related data analysis methods and procedures.
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.
- Proactive, constantly looking for potential hazards and taking immediate action to mitigate them. Manages all aspects of the company Safety Management System.
- Establishes and promotes a culture of safety, health, and compliance.
- Develop, execute, and enforce environmental, health and safety policies and best practices according to regulatory requirements, guidelines and company policies.
- Evaluate and establish practices and procedures to assess and mitigate/reduce risk and ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
- Assist in the development of training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention.
- Monitor compliance with environmental and safety regulations, policies and laws by performing audits and investigations of company personnel and operations.
- Develop and maintain a Lockout/Tagout program.
- Conduct safety inspections of equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and recommend solutions. Provide related reports and supporting documentation.
- When applicable, assist the Human Resources department in managing worker’s compensation claims and reports.
- Maintain required records for environmental and safety incidents.
- Develop solutions to environmental and employee health and safety issues and recommend improvement opportunities and/or new prevention measures.
- Keep abreast of new legislation directly related to the EHS Manager role.
- Ensure safe disposal of hazardous or biological waste as per regulations.
- Interface with regulatory bodies such as OSHA, EPA, FAA etc.
- Initiate and lead emergency response activities when required.
Supervisory / Managerial Duties:
Manages all environmental, employee health, and safety aspects within the company.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, noise, temperature extremes and other elements when in the production shop environment.
- Must be able and willing to work extended hours, if required.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Ability to convey complex information in an easy-to understand manner.
- Computer Skills - able to effectively use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams on an intermediate skill level or higher. Previous experience with Safety Management System software is a plus.
- Requires the ability to interact well with people inside and outside the Repair Station.
- Must be proficient and efficient in managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Must be able to safely lift a maximum of fifty pounds.
- Must not present a risk of injury to self or others while engaged in assigned Repair Station related duties.
Education and Experience:
- Prior airline experience is a must.
- BSc/BA in safety management, environmental compliance/health, or relevant field is preferred.
- At least five years of experience in developing, implementing and maintaining environmental, employee health, and safety programs and policies, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations preferred.
- In-depth knowledge and comprehension of federal, state, and local environmental, employee health, and safety regulations.
- Familiarity in auditing and investigation techniques, methods and practices directly related the EHS role.
- Comprehensive understanding of, and previous experience in managing an aviation Safety Management System is highly desired.
