MARKETING CONSULTANT / REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
The Bach Choir of Pittsburgh (BCP) performs innovative choral music for arts-loving audiences by presenting unique artistic experiences drawn from a variety of musical genres and diverse cultural traditions. We seek an experienced marketing consultant to help grow and diversify our audience, Choir, and Board of Directors; strengthen community group engagement; increase visibility within our service area; and evaluate and improve our branding. This is a grant-funded contract position.
Scope of Work
Working in collaboration with the Executive Director and Marketing Committee, the consultant will perform multiple tasks and related sub-tasks, including:
Research
- Research and identify the potential BCP audience (e.g., help to establish the BCP service area; characterize the potential audience; create a potential audience members database).
- Research and identify local and regional community groups and their partnership potential. Groups include but are not limited to religious congregations, community councils, libraries, public school systems, musical groups, social groups and leagues (e.g., LGBTQIA+), veterans groups, assisted living centers, the media, and universities.
- Research and identify resources required to implement plans (see “Planning”) and sources of those resources.
Plan Development
- Develop a comprehensive audience development plan. This includes, but is not limited to, strategy development, marketing and development toolkits and templates development, and evaluation of ticketing processes including BCP’s free ticket program.
- Develop a community group engagement plan. This includes, but is not limited to, strategy development, engagement toolkits and templates, and evaluation of past BCP engagement activities.
- Develop a diversity enhancement plan to increase diversity within the BCP audience, Choir, and Board of Directors.
- Develop an acquisition plan for resources required to implement the development, engagement, and enhancement plans.
Implementation (implementation is dependent on the level of accessible resources)
· Implement the comprehensive marketing and audience development plan. This includes coordinating emails, mailings, and related activities.
· Implement the community group engagement plan as resources allow. This includes limited one-on-one engagement with community groups.
· Implement the diversity enhancement plan.
Branding & Rebranding
- Evaluate BCP’s brand identity, including but not limited to, performing a brand audit, identification of awareness within the service area of BCP, and stakeholder surveying.
- Evaluate the value of a BCP rebranding.
- If the benefits of rebranding are significant, plan and implement a rebranding campaign.
Deliverables
- Each specified plan.
- Toolkits and templates for specific plan activities or functions.
- Season-long marketing, engagement, and digital campaign calendar.
- Social media and press templates for specific plan activities or functions.
· Two targeted community group engagement plans/campaigns per year.
- Brand and rebranding evaluation reports.
- Rebranding campaign and report (if rebranding is approved by BCP).
- Plan implementation evaluation reports.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or audience development (arts/nonprofit experience strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated experience with media relations and social media strategy and execution.
- Familiarity with basic website content design and management (e.g., WordPress or similar platforms).
- Excellent communication and project management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff and volunteers
- Familiarity with the Pittsburgh arts community is a plus
- Knowledge of or appreciation for choral or classical music is preferred but not required
Contract Terms
- Type: Independent Contractor
- Term: One-year contract, renewable for up to two additional years
- Compensation:
- Year 1: up to $55,000 (planning, research, implementation)
- Year 2: $41,200 (execution, evaluation, refinement)
- Year 3: $11,250 (final implementation and wrap-up)
