The Transport Specialist is responsible for responding to the location of and transporting decedents in various states of decomposition and trauma, medical records and any other items as directed from various locations of death to the District 5 Medical Examiner's Office or to/from other locations as needed/directed/requested. Transport will mostly occur within Lake, Sumter, Citrus, Hernando and Marion counties although out of district transport is occasionally necessary. Experience with the deceased in a related field such as a funeral home, EMT, paramedic or law enforcement is preferred. This is a 24 hour shift on-call position inclusive of weekends and some holidays. The ability to lift 150lbs and operate a manual mortuary cot is necessary. To be considered for this position applicants must possess a valid Florida Drivers License, and have a good driving record (no careless driving convictions/DUIs/speeding over 15 mph over the speed limit). Applicants must also pass a criminal background check and a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen. The Transport Specialists respond from home and must live within one of the five counties listed above. A transport cargo van and cell phone are provided. To apply you must come to the office and fill out an application at 809 Pine Street, Leesburg. Must be 21 years of age. You are guaranteed pay for a minimum of 32 hours per week. Overtime is paid if you work over 40 hours. In October there will be an opportunity to move to 40 hours per week.
