Job Overview
The Medication Technician plays a crucial role in providing quality care to patients by ensuring the safe and accurate administration of medications. Duties
- Administer medications to patients as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and compliance with medical guidelines.
- Monitor patients for any adverse reactions or side effects from medications and report findings to healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate records of medication administration and patient responses, utilizing electronic health record systems such as Epic.
- Provide compassionate patient care, including assistance with daily living activities and emotional support.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Uphold cleanliness and safety standards within the facility, ensuring a hygienic environment for all patients.
- Stay informed about medical terminology and best practices in caregiving, particularly in acute care settings.
Skills
- Strong understanding of patient care principles, particularly in hospital or senior care environments.
- Familiarity with medical terminology relevant to medication administration and patient health.
- Experience in home community care or caregiving roles is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of acute care procedures, including tube feeding techniques.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record systems like Epic for documentation purposes.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities, demonstrating patience and understanding.
- Excellent communication skills to interact compassionately with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in medication administration and record keeping.
