REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor - Melt
JOB SUMMARY:
Fully cross trained in all aspects of Melt department to flex into roles as needed throughout the day to achieve agreed upon performance levels with respect to job safety, quality, production, housekeeping and delivery. Perform all duties within the Melt department as required.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position involves regular: bending and lifting; continuous standing for long periods of time on anti-fatigue mats; pushing, pulling, and carrying of heavy parts and machines repetitively, must be able to use arms, hands, legs and feet in repetitive motions. Must be able to wear required PPE including safety boots, ear plugs, hard hat with face shield, gloves, flame-retardant jacket, apron, spats.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years “hands-on” production experience in a foundry Melt department.
- Knowledge of charging practices, metal chemistries and refractory’s.
- Ability to communicate in English minute by minute production updates via two-way radio – required.
- Prior experience successfully working with ISO 9001 requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS:
- Organizes work for smooth operation of the Melt department through coordinating activities including:
- Assist Shift Supervisor in identifying and requisitioning needed department supplies.
- Oversee and ensure department cleanliness (pouring decks, pouring line pits, dumpers, preheater, front furnace pit, ladle reline area, etc.)
- Responsible for the restocking of melt consumables
- Perform Melt department tasks as needed including:
- Assist furnace operator at key points in process, run furnace when needed
- Performs production test to assure quality iron is being produced
- Operates distribution and pouring ladles as needed
- Assist in shifting/line tending as needed
- Responsible for relining and up-keep of distribution, pouring ladles and starter blocks
- Assist in furnace relines, overhauls and patching
- Maintain and clean equipment including ladles, furnace covers, starter blocks, torches, temperature sticks and charge buckets, etc.
- Completes daily melt hoist inspections.
- Other duties as assigned.
