As a Mental Health Specialist in our school-based clinic, you will:

- Provide diagnoses, therapy, and preventive mental health services to children and families.
- Collaborate with MCHC associates, schools, and community groups regarding mental health issues, programs, and services.
- Work in an integrated manner with patients, families, providers, and staff to promote timely access to needed care, providing continuity of care.
- Provide assessments and diagnosis of mental health concerns using DSM-V-TR criteria.
- When needed, collaborate closely with school staff to coordinate care for students, ensuring alignment of treatment plans, academic accomodates, and support services.
- Develop treatment plan in conjunction with child and family.
- Provide individual therapy using evidence-based therapies and practices to treat mental health diagnoses.
- Evaluate needs of child/family and refers as needed. Coordinates services.
- Provide parenting skills and psychoeducation.
- Monitor treatment.
- Maintain documentation.
- Work cooperatively with child’s treatment team.
- Provide crisis management when appropriate to primary care children.
- May supervise Limited License Social Worker or Professional Counselor.
- May provide clinical supervision to Mental Health Specialists or a university student enrolled in a curriculum leading to a graduate degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.
- Participate in department staff meetings, case discussions, and on other Committees or work groups, as assigned.
- Participate in quality improvement projects.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
- Requires knowledge of personality and developmental theories, psychological assessment procedures, and therapeutic techniques acquired through the completion of a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work from an accredited college/university.
- Must have knowledge of clinical mental health assessment utilizing DSM-V criteria for mental health disorders.
- Requires an active Michigan license in good standing as a Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Master’s Social Worker. (Limited license may be considered.)
- Prefer two years post-master’s work experience in a clinical setting to gain exposure to a wide variety of children’s disorders and experience working with clients who may be living in an at-risk environment.
- Must have a high degree of communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with children, adolescents, parents, neighborhood groups, school staff, community agency personnel, administration, associates, clients, and visitors.
- Basic computer skills required in: Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat.
- Intermediate computer skills required in: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and EHR/EMR/EPM.
- Working knowledge of eClinicalWorks preferred.
