The Amherst Regional Middle School seeks a full-time, permanent school year educational leader to fill the role of Assistant Principal. Candidates should be well-versed in the teaching and learning process, able to support the work of the principal and have the ability to advance the mission of the school within the departments they supervise. This position is covered under the APAA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Our Assistant Principal will play a key role in the development of our learning environments and the management of our school. As the Middle School Assistant Principal, you will assist the Principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents/families. This includes responsibilities such as: leading, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, child communications, supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; and fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents.
Knowledge of the Massachusetts Learning Standards & curriculum; instructional design & delivery; data collection, analysis, and interpretation to inform critical decisions at the classroom or school level; ability to build relationships; understanding of the needs of diverse learners and systems of support to support learner needs; Demonstrated skills and understanding of culturally responsive schools and learning environments; Has experience in scheduling. Understands the middle level student; social/emotional/mental health issues, and a diverse student population including but not limited to; LGTBQIA+, BIPOC and ELL . The district is also seeking candidates with a strong Special Education background and understanding of 504's.
Serve as principal designee in the absence of the principal.
MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education License as a Principal/Assistant Principal is required. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with students, staff, and parents in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment. Demonstrated commitment to district multi-cultural goals and practices including Restorative Justice. Work collaboratively and take initiative. Participates in maintaining high standards of professional practice in all aspects of the operation of the school.
This is a school year position beginning on August 2nd, 2024.
