Job Summary: The MMF Maintenance Technician performs a variety of specialized and skilled tasks and duties for operation, maintenance, and repair of all landfill-related equipment, tools, and facilities. The MMF Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of all landfill-related equipment, tools, and facilities used in the operation of the Materials Management Facility and is required to comply with all policies, regulations and guidance as defined in the MMF O&M Manual, the Operating Permit, and all other documents applicable to the safe and efficient performance of the daily landfill operations.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Repair and maintain landfill-related equipment, tools, and facilities.
  • Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on all landfill-related equipment, tools and facilities utilized in operating the landfill.
  • Perform maintenance on Authority fleet vehicles.
  • Maintain accurate work order sheets to include materials used and the work performed, as directed by the Landfill Superintendent, or designee.
  • Assist the Landfill Superintendent in ensuring that all operators follow the proper equipment maintenance and operational procedures.
  • Monitor and report to the Landfill Superintendent any equipment failures and/or concerns.
  • Coordinate repair/maintenance requirements with Lead MMF Maintenance Technician.
  • Maintain operational supplies, to include any required materials for the performance of daily activities and any special, assigned projects.
  • Assist with the management of spare parts and inventory management systems.
  • Perform manual labor as required, including but not limited to, mowing, litter picking, hydro seeding, tree cutting, snow removal, etc.
  • Manage and respond to on-call duties as assigned, ensuring prompt attention to emergencies, urgent issues, or unexpected situations outside of regular working hours. This includes being available for immediate contact and intervention as needed, coordinating with relevant team members, and documenting all on-call activities and resolutions.
  • Perform related duties to support the overall operations and objective of the Authority.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Proficiency in maintenance and repair of heavy equipment.
  • Strong in plumbing, electrical and carpentry work, with strong hands-on skills in maintenance and repairs.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting system design drawings and technical schematics.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, walk long distances in snow and muddy conditions, climb ladders and slopes to access work sites.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Outlook, Computerized Maintenance Management System software, and SCADA.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with MS Word, Excel and GIS/GPS.
  • Demonstrates strong judgement, critical thinking, and effective decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage, adjust and prioritize a varied workload based on such factors as work objectives and business needs.
  • Must meet the training certification requirements for confined space entrant, confined space attendant, and confined space rescue in accordance with the Authority Health and Safety Manual.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional education or certifications relevant to the position, such as vocational training in mechanical, electrical, heavy equipment, automotive, or diesel repair is preferred.
  • Associate degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or other related discipline is preferred.

Professional Certification/Licenses:

  • New York State Class B CDL required.

Experience:

  • Three years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be acceptable.

Annual Physical Exam Required: Yes


Minimum Driver’s License: New York State Class “B” with any necessary endorsements needed for the required operation, maintenance, and repair of MMF landfill-related equipment, tools, and facilities.


Travel Requirements: <10%


Typical Work Schedule: Regularly works Monday through Friday during normal business hours and requires willingness to work a flexible schedule when needed, and rotational On-Call schedule.


Environmental: Outdoor Environment: Works outdoors with exposure to weather conditions (rain, snow, sun, wind, extreme cold and heat.)
