Position Summary:

The Bus Driver reports to the Mobius Center Director and has the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the children, staff and volunteers during bus transportation from schools to the center. It is also the role of the Bus Driver to: guarantee that the bus is clean and in proper working condition at all times; determine and follow safe and efficient bus routes; ensure all children are in age appropriate child safety restraints; maintain all transportation records required by the program; and, evacuate children in case of emergency.

Role:

1. Ensures the safety and well-being of children and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips.

2. Arranges for the annual state inspection of the bus(as) before program begins to transport children; assures, with prior approval, purchases and/or repairs are made pursuant to state inspection.

3. Completes an inspection of the bus daily, reporting any conditions of concern to the Center Director, before transporting children.

4. Ensures that the communication device (e.g. two-way radio, cellular phone) is in proper working order before each trip.

5. Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.g., oil change); transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.

6. Ensures that the bus always has sufficient fuel.

7. In consultation with the Director, develops and follows efficient and safe written bus routes that ensure no child will be on the bus more than one hour.

8. Operates bus in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed; reports any traffic violations to the Director immediately.

9. Ensures all children are in age appropriate child safety restraints at all times during transportation.

10. Assists with ensuring child/staff ratios are maintained on the bus and provides day to day guidance to the Bus Aides.

11. With the assistance of the Bus Aides, follows safe bus loading and unloading procedures.

12. Follows procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any time, including insuring all children have departed bus at the end of all bus routes at the Mobius Learning Academy.

13. Keeps the bus clean and free of debris; follows other bus cleaning procedures.

14. Routinely inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment, reports needs to the Director, or delegated staff person.

15. Assists in other transportation training of bus aides, teachers, children and volunteers.

16. In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures.

17. In the event of an accident, assures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written accident report as required by delegate's procedure and other authorities.

18. Attends and participates in center pre-service and in-service trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.

19. Performs other duties, as assigned.

Employment Qualifications:

Education:

Possess a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), hold a current School Bus Driver's Permit, and be certified in First Aid and CPR for all age groups transported. The bus driver candidate must pass a series of tests as prescribed by the Department of Arkansas State Police under § 27-23-108 and the Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation to determine the physical fitness and driving ability to serve as a school bus driver.

Experience:

Successful experience as a School Bus Driver preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position are required.

Additional Requirements:

Must be able to comply with background check, including fingerprints, as required by Mobius Learning Academy. Regular access to a reliable vehicle; have a valid Arkansas driver's license and vehicle insurance. Ability to present a positive image of Mobius to members of the community. Visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed. Must be free of communicable diseases and breathing impairments. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre-trip inspections, and clean the bus. Must have effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.

Ability to learn and comprehend information from Procedures Manuals and other materials. Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs required. Must be able to physically move through the bus, Mobius Center, and school pick-up zones. Ability to perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies. Successful experience working as an effective member of a team desirable. Experience successfully working with a culturally diverse staff & clients also desirable. Must possess personal qualifications as required in Section prescribed by the Department of Arkansas State Police under § 27-23-108 and the Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation to determine the physical fitness and driving ability to serve as a school bus driver. The Arkansas Licensing Standards for Child Care facilities including: emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the mission of Mobius Learning Academy, respect for children and adults from various cultures and backgrounds, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health that do not interfere with responsibilities.

Working Conditions:

Risk involved with travel on main highway, side streets and rural roads during business travel, including evenings and weekends. This job involves sitting for long periods as well as stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing and climbing. Able to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to travel, enter, and exit a vehicle without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions. Random drug tests may be performed.

The qualifications listed above are guidelines for selection purposes; alternative qualifications may be substituted if sufficient to perform the duties.

This position is part-time and will be approximately 2 hours a day in the afternoon.
