Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Narcotic Canine Handler to join our professional K9 operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with a trained detection dog to locate and identify the presence of illegal narcotics in a variety of environments, including private facilities, public events, schools, and law enforcement support operations.
The Handler plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of our facilities and personnel. This position involves monitoring activities, enforcing policies, and searching cars as they come in. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of , narcotic and firearm safety, conflict management, and loss prevention strategies. This role requires a proactive individual who can lead effectively and maintain a secure environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct narcotics and firearm detection sweeps using a certified K9.
- Maintain accurate reports and documentation of all searches and findings.
- Ensure daily care, training, and conditioning of the assigned K9 partner. Plus if you have your own K9 Partner
- Collaborate with security personnel, law enforcement, and clients to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Remain current on legal standards, search protocols, and controlled substances recognition.
- Maintain proficiency through regular training sessions and certification updates.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a working K9 handler (narcotics detection preferred).
- Strong understanding of Narcotics and Firearm safety.
- K9 certification and/or an Handler School through a recognized agency or organization (ASCTI, NNDDA, USPCA, NPCA, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of canine behavior, handling techniques, and scent detection principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work in diverse environments (outdoor, various terrains and weather conditions).
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
- Physically demanding; must be capable of lifting 50+ lbs and maintaining control of an active working dog.
