Job Summary:

Assists with meeting the daily operational needs of the Natural Resources Department (NRD). The job would involve fleet maintenance, acquisition of parts, office materials, and other general duties to support all department programs. Assists with the subsistence fish and game program. Has a "can do" attitude and a spirit of service. This person must be comfortable finding, lifting, transporting, and delivering various mediums and working in all types of weather and across rough terrain.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitates NRD fleet preventative maintenance and readiness to include but not limited to flat tire repairs, oil changes, wiper blade replacement, and coordinating all aspects of repair.
  • Assists in transport and acquisition of equipment, parts and office materials.
  • Assists in NRD program implementation such as timber sale layout, contract compliance, outdoor recreation projects.
  • Assists with the subsistence fish and game program including planning, processing, advertising, and distribution.
  • Operates forklifts, receives, ships and maintains accurate inventory of products. Ensures that the workplace remains safe and clean and that all food safety practices are followed.
  • Updates computerized inventory control systems and verifies physical stock of various NRD consumables (fish, lamprey, ceremonial meat, hides, etc.)
  • Loads, unloads and identifies materials, machinery and tools and distributes them to appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
  • Assists with loading and unloading trucks, equipment, and supplies for meetings, events, or office events.
  • Handles office errands such as picking up and delivering people to and from airport, project sites, mail, packages, supplies, basic filing and organization, answering phones, greeting guests and other items as requested.
  • Provides direct “hands-on” assistance and support to the Natural Resource Department
  • Pressure washes equipment as needed.
  • Operates, loads, and unloads equipment to be hauled. Ensures that all loads are properly prepared, loaded and secured before the vehicle proceeds from each stop. Personally checks and inspects the load. Performs a thorough check of the vehicle before and after each stop.
  • Assists in aquatic and mammal harvesting to include but not limited to fleshing, filleting, packaging, and preserving.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

  • Requires a high school diploma or
  • Must have documented experience towing and backing up trailers required.
  • Forklift operation preferred.
  • Excavation and/or skid steer experience a plus, but not required.
  • Previous experience fleshing, filleting, and preserving fish, game, or food preferred.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements:

  • Must maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
  • Requires the ability to drive a variety of large vehicles with a rating or actual gross vehicle weight under 26,001 pounds.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to research, compile and evaluate monitoring data and assist in the preparation and implementation of effective management plans.
  • Ability to read and manipulate digital maps.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, and anticipate problems by exhibiting forward thinking.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and resources at one time.
  • Must develop ability to read and interpret technical writing and organizational skills.
  • Must gain knowledge of federal, state and local requirements concerning hunting, fishing, gathering, wildlife management, sports fishing & angling zones.
  • Must gain knowledge of all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
  • Ability to professionally represent the interests of the Tribe to governmental or public groups and ability to write policy documents such as memos, reports, and letters as well as technical reports and other professional correspondence.
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft products.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule i.e. evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture is required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
  • Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Frequently requires working in all types of weather and across rough terrain.
  • Occasionally requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time.
  • Occasionally requires raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally.
  • Occasionally requires stooping, which entails the use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
  • The worker is frequently subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • The worker is frequently subject to fumes, odors, dust, mists, and chemicals.
  • The worker may be exposed to potentially dangerous animals and pathogens.
  • Occasionally works ten hours or longer a day, early mornings, nights, weekends and some Holidays.
  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
  • Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
  • Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan.
  • Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
  • Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
