Warden Publishing, which produces six hometown newspapers in mid-Missouri, is hiring multiple full-time news reporters to serve its publications in Gasconade, Maries, Osage, and Crawford counties. These newspapers cover small communities with populations ranging from 600 to 2,500 residents
Warden Publishing is a family-owned company that began with The Gasconade County Republican in 1963. It publishes six newspapers, including Missouri’s oldest and most uniquely named paper, The Unterrified Democrat, as well as the long-established Gasconade County Republican. The company recently expanded to include newspapers in Crawford County. All six publications focus on local news coverage, including county and city government, school boards, community features, and crime reporting.
We are seeking exceptional reporters and photographers to join our team. Are you an energetic, motivated team member with a passion for writing, news, and photography? This is your opportunity to report the news with a family company serving local communities for over five decades. Training is available for the right candidate.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting on local governments and school boards.
- Cover breaking news events either in person or through a series of phone conversations.
- Contribute stories to one or more publications.
- Take feature, news photographs, or videos.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, and ability to work well individually and as a team.
- One year of writing and photography experience preferred, but not required.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign and InCopy is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work under deadlines and occasional nights and weekends for event coverage.
- Photography experience preferred.
- Willingness and ability to work effectively in a remote environment if necessary.
- Energy and determination to succeed in a challenging environment.

Schedule:
- Primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional night and weekend shifts for event coverage. Some on-call availability required. Flexible scheduling.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required).
Experience:
- Journalism: 1 year of experience preferred.
License/Certification:
- A driver's license is required.
