Job Story
The NIAR ATLAS lab is seeking a student assistant to assist with robotics programming and operations.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Robot Programming and Operation:
- Operate KUKA robots to ensure efficient production processes in a factory environment.
- Develop, test, and refine robot toolpaths and programs to optimize performance and precision.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to robot operation and programming, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Interpret and utilize electrical diagrams and schematics to set up and maintain equipment.
- Conduct minor electrical repairs and maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of all machinery.
- Perform routine inspections to identify potential electrical issues and address them proactively.
- Write and modify PLC programs using ladder logic and scripted text programming to control and automate industrial processes.
- Test and debug PLC programs to ensure they function as intended and meet operational requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement and improve automated systems.
- Handle and inspect sensitive aerospace equipment with care to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks on inspection and repair equipment to maintain optimal performance and safety.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities, ensuring accurate records are kept for future reference.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Job Requirements
Currently a student at Wichita State University majoring in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
Strong understanding of electrical diagrams, schematics, and PLC programming.
Familiarity with ladder logic and scripted text programming for PLCs.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in handling and maintaining sensitive inspection and repair equipment
Experience in operating and programming KUKA robots or a similar robotic system
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phones, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
