The Nursing Remediation Specialist works closely with nursing students of all backgrounds and learning styles to promote psychomotor skill learning in the nursing skills laboratory.
Duties and Tasks:
- Engages with current students and re-entry students in support of skill-based learning as outlined by the Concept-Based Curriculum and Nursing Faculty priorities.
- Reinforces and evaluates clinical nursing skills in preparation for student demonstration of skill proficiency.
- Collaborates with Nursing Faculty to plan and implement re-entry student’s skill proficiency activities as deemed appropriate per the Dean of Nursing.
- Collaborates with Nursing Faculty to offer remedial support following graduation to nursing students as they prepare for the NCLEX RN licensure examination.
- Collaborates with Nursing Faculty to offer remedial support based on referrals following simulation experiences with students in all levels of the nursing curriculum.
- Collaborates with Dean of Nursing and Lab Manager to track data appropriate to Virginia Board of Nursing and Accreditation Standards.
- Deployment of an approved survey to all program graduates 12 months post-graduation for every nursing cohort.
- Assists with set up for skill-based learning and simulation activities as needed by Nursing Faculty.
- Assists the Lab Manager with equipment maintenance, inventory, and ordering of supplies current to the hospital setting.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Current knowledge of nursing skills and competencies of a Registered Nurse.
- Knowledge of individual and group teaching techniques.
- Demonstrates ability to work with students of various backgrounds and educational levels to advise students and provide remedial tutorial assistance.
- Knowledge of the NCLEX RN test plan and priorities for examination preparation.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with the students regarding issues identified by Nursing Faculty.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with Nursing Faculty to help plan remediation and tutoring services that best fit each individual students’ needs.
- Able to manage multiple ongoing student services at one time.
- Report on a summary of required student services to the Nursing Division as deemed appropriate by Lab Manager and Dean of Nursing.
- Demonstrates professional demeanor and positive, encouraging attitude while working with nursing students.
- Maintains confidentiality in communicating with students and faculty regarding personal matters impacting student success in nursing.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing.
- Registered Nurse License to practice in Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Work experience in a Nursing related area.
- Flexible work schedule including day, evening and weekend hours required.
- Doctorate’s degree in Nursing.
- Significant working experience in clinical nursing environment.
- CPR certification preferred.
