Nutrition Assistant II
Position Description:
Performs a variety of duties to prepare, serve, promote and monitor food for the breakfast and/or lunch programs at Elementary and/or Secondary schools. A skills assessment will be administered.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of food service experience desired.
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Properly prepare foods by following written or verbal instructions.
- Make accurate mathematical calculations.
- Work effectively as a team member.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
- Effectively complete cashiering duties as needed using the computerized system.
- Maintain effective promotional and productivity programs.
- Properly lift and carry loads weighing up to 40 pounds multiple times during work shift.
- Valid Washington State Food Handler's Permit.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Serve as an active, productive and collegial team member, who values, builds and maintains supportive relationships with students, staff, parents and community members.
- Complete kitchen clean-up, wash dishes, utensils, pots and pans; may operate dishwashing machines; sanitize kitchen including sweeping and mopping kitchen floors; cleaning tables. This includes maintaining a cleaning schedule which accommodates larger cleaning tasks. Ensure all equipment, including salad bar(s), hot boxes and ovens are kept clean and in a sanitary state.
- Has knowledge of and executes HACCP guidelines daily.
- May take money for meals; records free and reduced-priced status of students in a computerized meal system.
- Assist in displaying food for cafeteria-style meals; set up condiments.
- Uphold and assist in enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Requires the use of multiple communication and technology systems, which may include electronic mail, computers, document cameras, smart boards, and web-based resources.
- May perform similar, related duties as assigned.
Specific Elementary School Responsibilities:
- Receive and account for hot and cold foods from production kitchen.
- Maintain kitchen inventory, including weekly inventory, accounting and ensuring stock on hand to comply with federal meal requirements.
- Allocate food for each lunch period; heat appropriate portions of food with minimal leftovers. Ensure all students receive a federally reimbursable meal.
- Open cans; handle, prepare and portion as needed; maintain portion control.
- Ensure salad bar has a variety of color, texture and food groups. This includes menu evaluation and request in additional food as needed from the production kitchen. Ensure that food, including milk is rotated and stored properly with appropriate dating.
- Inform other team members of menu changes; promotions and other necessary information.
- Ensure all food service employees at site are able to perform cashiering duties.
- Coordinate confirmation of lunch count. Complete weekly meal/labor report. This includes daily or periodic computation of MPLH to ensure school is meeting goals. Complete food shipment sheet which tallies food received, served and returned.
- Develop and maintain an effective advertising and promotional schedule, including newsletter inserts, availability of prizes, menu board and other advertising methods.
Specific Secondary School Responsibilities:
- Assist in:
- Assist cook and/or prepare food items such as cakes, cookies, fruits, vegetables or other hot foods, place foods into oven or deep fat fryer for cooking.
- Setting up production line; keep items stocked to ensure continual flow of meals served; monitor portion control and ensure that line is in working order.
- Ordering supplies, taking inventory, counting money.
- May serve food or sell snack items to students; count and maintain records of snack items.
3. Under direction of cook, prepare proper amount of food items to be served, properly and safely operate a variety of kitchen equipment.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.60 - $25.00 per hour
