Nature of Work
Under general supervision at the full-performance level, this position performs paraprofessional work for the West Virginia Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, including determining income eligibility, conducting health screenings, making referrals to health and human service programs, and providing basic nutrition and breastfeeding education. The position provides basic nutrition and breastfeeding assessment, education, and counseling to groups and individuals. It certifies participants in the WIC program and delivers breastfeeding counseling, all in accordance with federal regulations and state and local policies and procedures. Travel may be required. Performs related work as needed.
This position is distinguished by duties that require independent judgment in applying regulations, policies, procedures, and nutrition theories. It is responsible for developing and implementing care plans for low-risk clients and typically involves extensive direct contact with clients and community service providers. This position does not include supervisory or lead work responsibilities.
