Summary:
The purpose of this position is to certify women, infants and children as needing supplemental food for the Cleveland County WIC Program in accordance with all WIC Federal, State, and County guidelines, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Nutrition Program Director. The normal work schedule includes Monday to Friday 8 AM-5 PM
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include:
" Assess participants for eligibility
" Interact with WIC participants and applicants in person and via phone.
" Conduct WIC certifications, including providing nutrition education and counseling for normal growth and development of infants, children, pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women
" Update and intake special formula/nutritional orders from the state.
" Provide nutrition education and dietary counseling for any WIC participant or in special cases, other health department clients
" Provide breastfeeding support, education, and assistance.
" Provide health education about good nutrition habits and breastfeeding skills to the residents of Cleveland County through community education, outreach and events, classroom room education and technical training to clients.
" Manage and implement breastfeeding promotion and support activities within the agency and in the community.
" Follow the breastfeeding program management policies and procedures outlined in the North Carolina WIC Program Manual.

Education & Experience:
Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration; or Master's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education- approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor's degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience; or a Bachelor's of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
" Considerable knowledge of principles of normal and therapeutic nutrition. Considerable knowledge and skill in nutrition and dietary assessment techniques (anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary), and in the interpretation of data. General knowledge of office procedures, methods, and practices. Ability to learn, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local WIC Program rules and regulations. Ability to deal tactfully with the public and to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions.

Work Location:
This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor and HR for approval.
This position is a part of a Health and Human Services Department. By General Statue 166A-19.3, Departments of Health and Human Services are agencies that are a part of the State Emergency Response Team for occurrences or imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from any natural or man-made accidental, military, paramilitary, terrorism, weather-related, public health, explosion-related, riot-related cause, or technological failure or accident, including, but not limited to, a cyber incident, an explosion, a transportation accident, a radiological accident, or a chemical or other hazardous material incident. In the event that the State Emergency Response Team is activated, this position will be required to participate if deemed necessary.
