Job Summary:

Tiny Town Childcare is looking for an enthusiastic, caring, and reliable Assistant Teacher & Opener to join our team. This position combines the responsibilities of opening the center in the morning and assisting the Lead Teacher throughout the day. The ideal candidate will help create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children, while supporting the Lead Teacher in the classroom. As the Opener, the Assistant Teacher will ensure that the classroom and center are prepared for the day ahead, greeting children and parents, and setting the stage for a positive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Opener Duties:

  • Arrive Early: Be the first to arrive at the center and ensure that all areas are prepared and ready for the day.
  • Classroom Setup: Prepare the classroom by arranging materials, setting up learning stations, and ensuring that toys, books, and supplies are clean and in good condition.
  • Safety & Security: Ensure the center is in compliance with all safety protocols, including securing the building and making sure that safety checks are completed.
  • Prepare for the Day: Organize and set up breakfast or morning snacks (if applicable), ensuring that meals are prepared and served in a safe and hygienic manner.
  • Greeting Families: Greet children and parents in a friendly and welcoming manner as they arrive, ensuring smooth transitions from home to daycare.
  • Ensure Smooth Transitions: Help children settle in, helping with hanging up backpacks, assisting with coats and personal belongings, and transitioning into their day.
Assistant Teacher Duties:

  • Classroom Support: Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for children (ages 6 weeks to 12 years), focusing on cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Child Supervision: Ensure children’s safety and well-being by providing constant supervision and being actively involved in their daily routines and activities.
  • Activity Facilitation: Help organize and lead group activities, including arts and crafts, reading, sensory play, music, games, and outdoor activities based on the children’s developmental needs and interests.
  • Learning Support: Support the Lead Teacher in teaching children basic academic skills (letters, numbers, colors, shapes, etc.), social skills, and positive behavior expectations.
  • Behavior Management: Assist with managing classroom behavior, reinforcing positive behaviors, and following through with redirection when necessary, ensuring a calm and respectful environment.
  • Daily Routines: Help children with daily routines such as meals, snacks, naptime, bathroom breaks, and personal care as needed.
  • Documentation and Observation: Assist with observing and documenting children’s progress, noting milestones, behaviors, and any areas for development. Support in preparing reports for parents/guardians as needed.
  • Communication: Develop positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues. Communicate any important updates, concerns, or observations with the Lead Teacher and parents as appropriate.
  • Classroom Management: Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment, including setting up activities, cleaning, and ensuring toys and materials are sanitized.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with other teaching staff to ensure consistency in classroom routines, activities, and educational goals.
Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Early Childhood Education (ECE) coursework or degree preferred.
  • Experience working with young children (ages 6 weeks to 5 years) in a licensed childcare or educational setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, and coworkers.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and take direction from Lead Teacher and Center Director.
  • Patience, creativity, and a genuine love for working with children.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changes in routine or schedule.
Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25-30 pounds and participate in physical activities with children (e.g., helping them with activities, lifting infants or toddlers as necessary).
  • Comfort with standing, bending, kneeling, and being physically active throughout the day.
  • Ability to perform light cleaning duties as needed (sanitizing toys, setting up activities, etc.).
