YMCA OF MEMPHIS AND THE MIDSOUTH OPENING MEMBERSHIP ASSOCIATE
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for opening the center for daily operations and delivering excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. Responds to member and guest needs, promotes memberships and programs, and maintains cleanliness and organization of the lobby area.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The part - time Membership Associate position is responsible for opening the center for daily operations and delivering excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. Responds to member and guest needs, promotes memberships and programs, and maintains cleanliness and organization of the lobby area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the branch and on the phone, contributing to member retention.
- Interviews and/or tours prospective members; sells memberships.
- Builds relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and to the YMCA.
- Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisors of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
- Applies all YMCA policies dealing with member services.
- May hand out locker keys and towels; may monitor the locker rooms as required.
- Opening Procedures
- Arrive at 4:45 am to complete opening duties
- Ensure that the welcome center in the facility is ready for daily operations
- Willing to open a minimum of 3 weekdays per week
- Administrative Duties
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings
- Assist with facility tours
- Serve as a YMCA representative at special events
- Attend designated YMCA trainings and certification courses
- Other Duties/Issues:
- In special circumstances, supervisors reserve the right to assign job duties other than those specifically listed above.
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time, and kneel down or crouch. Employees may be exposed to loud music. Specific visual abilities include close, distant, peripheral, and depth.
- Employees will accurately report work time via approved YMCA Clocking Method: Branch Kiosk, YMCA site phone, YMCA iPad, or timesheet.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Previous customer service, sales, or related experience.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
WORK SCHEDULE:The part-time work schedule may vary per the Y’s hours of operation. Most Y’s are open 7 days a week:Mon. – Fri. 5:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.Sat. 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.Sun. 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
