Responsibilities
- Responsible for performing scientific experiments under the direction of the principal investigator related to immunology, infectious diseases, biochemistry, and structural biology.
- Instructs lab members in procedures and operation of laboratory equipment and lab safety.
- Responsible for performing independent laboratory research, to include designing and performing biochemical and immunological assays at the bench, taking detailed notes of experimental procedures, analyzing experimental data, writing research reports and manuscripts, helping the PI prepare research proposals for grant applications. Analyzes existing methodologies, formulates hypotheses and develops new protocols.
- Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete laboratory notebooks and research reports, managing the PI’s grant accounts, ordering supplies and reagents, generating monthly expense reports on personnel and lab purchases, assisting in the general management of the lab including routine cleaning and maintenance of all lab equipment, training new personnel, and supervising lab members assigned by the PI.
- Manages the day to day lab environment, including individual lab member duties.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree or higher (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., etc.) in an appropriate field is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
- Two years of experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Prior experience working with rodent animal models.
