Raising Shasta (Shasta County Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council) has been dedicated to preventing child abuse and promoting early intervention strategies since 1987. We work in partnership with community agencies to build pathways of hope, healing, and resilience for children and families throughout Shasta County.
We are currently seeking a compassionate and community-minded Parent Partner (Home Visitor) to join our team. In this role, you will provide direct, in-home support to families facing challenges such as child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, poverty, and mental health concerns. Your work will directly support our mission of building safe, nurturing environments for children and strengthening the families who care for them.
Position Summary
As a Parent Partner, you’ll work closely with families to assess needs, develop individualized care plans, and connect them to vital community resources. You’ll utilize motivational interviewing and trauma-informed approaches to guide and empower families toward stability and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular home visits to support family well-being and encourage positive parenting practices.
- Assess family needs and co-create care plans tailored to each family's goals.
- Utilize evidence-based practices such as Triple P, the Five Protective Factors Framework, and Hope Theory.
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support when families face acute challenges.
- Support goal-setting that empowers families toward increased independence and resilience.
- Collaborate with community partners such as social workers, healthcare providers, schools, and mental health professionals.
- Connect families to essential resources including food, housing, medical care, and child development services.
- Model nurturing behavior and build strong, trusting relationships with clients.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided, family progress, and case outcomes in a timely manner.
- Advocate for families' needs and help them navigate complex systems and services.
Qualifications
- Experience in social services, peer support, child welfare, or related fields (personal or professional).
- Familiarity with child development, family dynamics, and trauma-informed care.
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and cultural humility.
- Ability to engage with families in crisis with compassion and professionalism.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required.
- Background in child protective services, early childhood, or social work is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lived experience as a parent or caregiver, particularly one who has navigated systems such as child welfare, behavioral health, housing, or social services.
- Experience working with families in crisis or those impacted by trauma, domestic violence, substance use, or poverty.
- Training or certification in evidence-based programs such as Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), Nurturing Parenting, or other parenting curricula.
- Familiarity with case management or client service documentation systems.
- Knowledge of local community resources in Shasta County or surrounding areas.
- Bilingual or multilingual (especially Spanish-speaking) to better serve diverse families.
- Cultural competence and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in service delivery.
- Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, or Strengthening Families Framework training or experience.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, Family Studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
