ABOUT US: Founded in 2020 by Mayra Martinez and Anthony Perez, Legacy Empowerment Services’ (LES) mission is to empower adults with disabilities to fulfill their potential & reach their goals by providing a wide array of services including skills training for daily living, appropriate social behavior, planning and coordinating recreational and leisure activities, employment supports and promotion of community awareness and involvement. Our team is diverse with invaluable experience as teachers, social workers, behaviorists, group home managers, support coordinators, job coaches, and parents of individuals with disabilities.
JOB TITLE: Part Time Community Based Instructor
REPORTS TO: Region Supervisor
JOB OVERVIEW: We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Community-Based Instructor in a contract role to support adults with disabilities in engaging with and participating in their community. The successful candidate will take a hands-on, individualized approach to instruction, working directly with participants to help them develop life skills, enhance social interactions, and achieve personal goals in real-world community settings. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping individuals with disabilities thrive through active participation in community-based activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- assistance with increasing community participation such as running daily errands, attending community events, going to restaurants, shopping, travel training, etc.
- assistance with increasing independence helping the individual learn how to do laundry, cook, clean, grocery shop, pay for items, etc.
- assistance with on-the-job support such as safety awareness, using the restroom, attending to tasks, lunch/breaks, etc.
- Document and submit activity reports within 24 hours of service(s) being provided in accordance with NJ state guidelines
- Assist with fine motor skills including mobility issues as needed
- Punctuality and professionalism is required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in fields such as special education, social work, psychology, or related disciplines.
- Previous experience working with adults with disabilities is a bonus
- Knowledge of life skills, including personal development, independence training, and job readiness.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and other professionals.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit the needs of individuals with varying cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward working with individuals with disabilities.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
Salary & Compensation: starting hourly rate is $23/hour
Shift: Afternoon into evening
Additional Information:
- This is a 1099 contract role
- Contractors are not eligible for benefits
- All contractors are subject to background checks
