Patient Advocate – Riverdale, GA
A Patient Advocate is someone who helps patients navigate the healthcare system. The Patient Advocate coordinates directly with patients in a hospital setting to provide support and communicate with agencies, hospital staff, and others to advocate on behalf of self-pay patients and other underinsured patients, verify eligibility for Medicaid or other federal programs.
Location: Riverdale, GA 30274
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Onsite
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist patients and others to complete forms, applications, and other paperwork.
- Collect and review patient information to determine patient’s eligibility.
- Prepare documents, review for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide technical assistance on agency issues, services, and programs.
- Maintain and/or create files or record keeping systems. Sort, label files, and retrieve documents or other materials.
- Interact with patients at the site to provide real-time service support and address patient concerns.
- Develop and retain professional relationships with hospital staff.
- Handle caseload, retrieve, sustain, and communicate all designated reports.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to EMTALA and HIPAA guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications:
- 1+ year of work experience in health care, medical insurance, hospital, or clinic
- High School or GED required; associate degree or equivalent from 2-year college a plus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced diverse environment
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients and hospital staff.
- Ability to travel locally to other work sites.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel pivot tables, Project, and PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare processes.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is between $21.00 – 24.00 per hour, depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. Applications will be accepted until 8/15/2025.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
