Job Summary
The Patient Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless experience for patients within the healthcare facility. This position involves managing patient interactions, coordinating appointments, and maintaining accurate medical records. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology and coding, particularly ICD-10 and ICD-9, along with proficiency in medical billing and collections. The Patient Coordinator will serve as a vital link between patients and healthcare providers, ensuring that all administrative processes are handled efficiently.
Duties
- Greet patients upon arrival and assist with the check-in process.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments while managing the appointment calendar.
- Collect and verify patient information, including insurance details and medical histories.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
- Process medical billing and collections, including handling payments and insurance claims.
- Utilize knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-9, DRG, and medical coding to assist in documentation and billing processes.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care plans, appointments, and any necessary follow-up.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure timely communication of patient needs.
- Assist in maintaining the overall organization of the medical office environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in healthcare administration or related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, including familiarity with ICD-10, ICD-9, DRG, medical coding, billing, and collection processes.
- Experience working in a medical office setting is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and professionally.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems is a plus.
