Job Summary:
The Financial Counselor plays a critical role in ensuring a positive financial experience for patients by serving as a knowledgeable and compassionate resource for financial matters. This position is the primary point of contact for patients seeking information or assistance regarding financial obligations, insurance coverage, and available support programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide patients through the complexities of insurance benefits and coverage, clearly explaining financial responsibilities.
- Serve as the primary liaison for financial assistance inquiries, both in person and over the phone.
- Review patient statements, collect payments, and establish appropriate payment plans.
- Prepare cost estimates and provide clear communication regarding expected patient liabilities.
- Assist patients in determining eligibility for government assistance programs, Allen Parish Community Healthcare’s financial assistance program, and other available resources to help manage significant medical expenses.
Experience
- Hospital and/or clinic revenue cycle services with and understanding of medical insurance benefits and coverage, insurance explanation of benefits, and patient financial liability preferred.
- TruBridge and/or Athena Health electronic health record system preferred.
