Job Title: PE Teacher – Strength & Conditioning Coach Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Principal Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale Days: 187

Dept./School: High School Assigned Hours: Must be flexible, early mornings/evenings

Primary Purpose:

The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for all sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The Strength and Conditioning Coach devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, maintains athlete records, and teaches strength and conditioning classes as needed. The Strength and Conditioning Coach meets regularly with sport coaches to determine what the athletes need to work on. If working with an injured athlete engaged in rehabilitation, the Strength and Conditioning Coach will consult with the sports medicine or athletic training staff. The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility, and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
  • Valid certification in the following: Physical Education (Grades EC-12)
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Must hold at least one of the following certifications:
    • CSCS from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
    • SCCC from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa)
    • USA Weightlifting (USAW) level 1 or Sports Performance Coach
    • Current CPR certification
    • Current AED certification
    • All C.E.U.’s and certifications must be kept current
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills, Excel and strength software preferred.
  • Must be willing to obtain certifications as defined by company policy.

  • Experience in designing and implementing fitness regimens.


Experience:

  • 2+ years of coaching strength and conditioning at the high school, collegiate, or professional level

Major Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs in-season, off-season, and preseason for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic programs in a manner that reflects research driven practices and our company’s Long-Term Athletic/Fitness Development Model.
  • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff.
  • Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with company standards and guidelines.
  • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the sport coaches. • Maintains a personal health and fitness lifestyle consistent with company guidelines. Conduct an annual needs-analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team's athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.
  • Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the school's expectations for curricula and extra-curricular activities, as stated in the school's Student Code of Conduct.
  • Successfully completes training and educational courses as required.

Instructional Strategies

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.

  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)] Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
  • Posture: Prolonged standing/walking; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking, Sensory ability needs - significant; hearing, near vision, peripheral vision color discrimination, depth perception
  • Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment
  • Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise, frequent cold and heat
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
