Job Overview – Photography Tutor (Summer–Fall 2025)
We are seeking a skilled and professional photography tutor to support a student currently enrolled in two college-level photography classes. The student is seeking on-location guidance in the East Portland area, with optional remote editing sessions available as well. This is a temporary tutoring role that will run through Summer and Fall 2025, with the option to continue afterward.
The ideal candidate has a strong working knowledge of mirrorless camera systems—specifically the Nikon Z-series (Z6 III) with a 24–70mm f/2.8 lens—and experience teaching or mentoring beginner to intermediate photographers.
Duties
- Conduct on-location photography instruction in safe, public areas of East Portland (locations will be mutually agreed upon in advance)
- Offer remote support for editing sessions using tools like Lightroom and/or Photoshop
- Help the student build technical confidence in using manual camera settings, including ISO, shutter speed, aperture, and white balance
- Assist in understanding lens control, lighting, framing, and post-processing fundamentals
- Recommend creative exercises and workflow techniques aligned with their coursework
- Provide flexible, structured sessions that balance practical application with technical instruction
Schedule & Duration
- Start: Summer 2025
- End: End of Fall 2025 term (with potential to continue)
- Frequency: 1–2 sessions per week
- Format: Primarily in-person sessions in East Portland, plus optional virtual editing support
- All meetings must occur in safe, public spaces (e.g., parks, coffee shops, photo shoot locations)
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with mirrorless systems (especially Nikon Z-series cameras, including the Z6 III)
- Experience teaching photography or providing 1-on-1 coaching
- Familiarity with photo editing software (Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar)
- Strong communication skills and an ability to simplify complex camera functions
- Dependable, punctual, and able to meet in agreed public locations for sessions
Compensation
- Hourly pay isbased on experience and number of sessions agreed upon per week
- This is a 1099 independent contractor position
