Position Summary:
This position is responsible for programming automation equipment using both PLCs and HMIs and providing technical support to improve existing equipment.
Essential Duties:
- PROGRAMMING & DESIGN: Program PLC and HMI systems for automated work cells. Programs will interface with VFDs, Smart Motors, Robotic Systems, and other devices.
- SUPPORT & IMPROVEMENTS: Test programs for reliability and error recovery. Develop troubleshooting guides for equipment. Provide technical support for legacy equipment including continuous improvement projects, as well as program changes due to variable Production needs.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement standard engineering practices and accurately document completion. Adhere to safety standards. Abide by company policies and model core Sterling values. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or similar field desired, or a combination of education and experience. 3+ years Allen Bradley programming experience required. Detailed knowledge of PLC automation software and coding languages required. Experience with FANUC Robots or similar robotics a plus.

Key Competencies:
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and experience reading electrical systems required. Must have excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and be able to manage multiple projects while meeting established timelines. Must have mechanical aptitude, ability to develop and execute design of experiments, and be computer proficient, especially in Microsoft Office products.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- The work environment is in a general office setting with time spent in the machine shop. May be exposed to moving machine parts.
