Position Summary
The Pre-Bid Designer/Estimator is a hybrid role that combines technical design and cost estimation of fall protection and suspended access systems using AutoCAD and Bluebeam, while ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA, OSHA, and ANSI standards. This position supports both the Utah and California estimating teams by creating pre-bid layouts, generating accurate project cost estimates, and preparing proposals. It requires versatility in shifting between design and estimation tasks, as well as proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Excel, and Word. The role involves close collaboration with sales, site survey technicians, and engineers to ensure timely and accurate project documentation. Additional responsibilities may include participating in customer communications, supporting field and office survey teams, and helping resolve design or cost-related issues. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and update pre-bid fall protection system drawings using AutoCAD, ensuring accuracy and compliance with engineering specifications.
- Review site survey data, including photos, videos, drawings, satellite imagery, and communications, to develop a clear understanding of each project.
- Generate detailed, accurate cost estimates and written system descriptions for use by sales teams, customers, and engineering.
- Assist site survey technicians in evaluating system layouts and collaborate with sales and engineering to resolve design and cost issues.
- Participate in client and internal team calls to provide technical input and ensure estimating tasks align with project timelines and customer expectations.
- Provide drafting and estimating support to both California and Utah teams, coordinating with regional management to meet local project requirements.

Required Qualifications
- Experience in job cost estimation, with a strong understanding of structural steel, steel fabrication, and building construction.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for technical drawing and layout creation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced knowledge of Excel including the ability to create and edit complex formulas and basic macros.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, particularly architectural and structural drawings.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to compile detailed information from multiple sources accurately and on time.
- Prior experience using CRM systems.
- Effective communication skills with both internal teams and external clients/customers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a detail-oriented and quality-conscious approach.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and thriving in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative team player with a commitment to supporting cross-functional projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with safety standards and codes including OSHA, Cal/OSHA, ANSI Z359, ASME A120, and ANSI/IWCA I-14.
- Salesforce proficiency is a plus.
- Additional relevant skills, certifications, or education in design, construction safety, or estimating are a plus.

Physical Requirements
This position is primarily based in an indoor office setting, with the option for a hybrid work schedule coordinated with management. It is largely sedentary and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer—up to 8 hours a day. Regular tasks include reading, writing, counting, and using hands and fingers to operate keyboard, phone, and standard office equipment. Occasional walking, bending, reaching, and standing may also be required.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 1-hour lunch as scheduled with management. This position may require hours beyond the standard working hours listed above to satisfy job duties and department demand.
