Our Produce Specialist will provide oversight and merchandising support to the Defense Commissary Agency throughout the Washington D.C metro and the surrounding area. The Produce Specialist will support industry standard merchandising strategies by reinforcing stated goals, building displays, maintaining department conditions, and striving for flawless execution of department operations. The Produce Specialist will succeed in their role by creating retail merchandising strategies compatible with the promotions while establishing short- and long-term goals to improve the operation of the commissary produce department. This position receives a company vehicle, fuel card, cell phone allowance, and semi-annual performance-based bonuses.
- Travels to assigned stores working with the Department Manager and staff to share merchandising plans for departments to meet sales, gross, and labor targets.
- Ensures adequate on-hand inventory levels, especially of items advertised in weekly circulars, providing feedback as necessary
- Leverages in-depth knowledge and expertise of department to analyze problems/issues, and identify root cause of problems impacting stores related to sales while communicating these issues effectively to the appropriate levels of the organization
- Works with and counsel’s department Managers and Store personnel in all aspects of product merchandising and customer service.
- Executes plans measured through store visits, reviewing results of plans, and observing store department conditions
- Coaches and develops a team of skilled dedicated specialists and merchandisers to ensure competency to meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Is the liaison between the Retail Operations Director and MPG Leadership regarding the communication of feedback on initiatives and in-store opportunities.
- Ensures team engagement within the region is maintained as a priority at all levels.
Requirements:
- 5+ years retail produce Department Manager or Store Director experience.
- Multi-store experience preferred.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the phone.
- Ability to train and coach employees and customers at all levels
- Possess strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate others without directly supervising
- Ability to handle multiple projects on time sensitive schedules.
- Ability to lift cases of fresh produce weighing as much as 50 lbs.
- Ability to travel throughout FL, GA, and SC on a weekly basis.
- Adept at utilizing technology to include software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, kneel, stoop, and lift items of usually 5 -60 pounds.
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods while traveling throughout the designated region.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background screening and/or drug test.
Job locations are on active military installations servicing a government commissary and as such a full federal background check will be conducted. Candidates must be able to pass a background check in order to secure access to all work locations.
